Propagation
Divide the bulbs from early to mid summer and replant immediately into a prepared bed.

Plant offsets out 50 mm (2in) deep with the pointed end at ground level. Mature bulbs are planted during late summer to 30 mm (1? in) deep and 150 mm (6in) apart.

Offsets from mature bulbs planted separately and grown on for two years. A 'V' shape cut on bottom of a mature bulb at planting time will produce many new offsets when lifted in summer.

Botanic information
Leaf: The linear (strap like)leaves have an acute apex and stand erect around the flower stem at ground level.

Flower: The sweetly scented expanded tubulate flowers have recurved petals and are arranged in a terminal raceme that is up to 20mm (8in) long. They appear on a leafless scape that is up to 300mm (12in) tall. Each inflorescence contains 30 to 40 single or double blooms and appear during spring.

Fruit: The small 3-celled capsule contains the numerous seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.

Culture
Keep the plant well watered during the growing period and remove spent flowers or foliage. Add blood and bone to the soil when planting and liquid fertiliser during the flowering period. As the leaves begin to yellow reduce watering and fertilising.
When using the flowers in floral arrangements dip the stems in cool deep water for two hours before arranging.
