Propagation
The seed (not normally used) have a hard coat and must be drilled or nicked to allow moisture in.

Divide the rhizome from late winter to early spring.

Culture
If this plant is grown under glass place in indirect well-lit area using a loam less potting mixes in a deep pot. Apply liquid fertiliser monthly during the growing period and keep moist.

Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are long lanceolate and clasp the stem. The upper surface has a prominent mid rib and veins and the apex is acuminate. The colour varies from purple or bronze and reddish to glossy green.

Flower: The funnelform flowers have a limped appearance and are red, yellow and salmon to orange-yellow. They are arranged in a narrow terminal panicle that is held above the foliage and appear throughout summer.

Fruit: The attractive wart-textured capsule is 3 celled and papery and contains 10 to 12 black and very hard seeds. This plants will self sow especially along creek lines and may become weedy. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively in order to maintain true to type.
