Botanic information
Leaf: The juvenile leaves are awl-like up to 4 mm (? in)long and the adult leaves a scale-like with swollen tips and are closely pressed on the twigs. They produce a lemon scent when crushed.
Flower: The male flowers become yellowish when shedding pollen in spring. The female flowers are made of 4 to 6 polygonal scales and are green turning brownish violet.
Fruit: The cones are rounded with 8 to 14 large scales with curved bosses in the centre. The winged seeds have small warts on the surface and the cultivars are normally reproduced vegetatively.
