Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).
Air layering is carried out during the growing period.
Note:
Care should be taken when selecting a sight as the tree has vigorous roots that can lift concrete and block drains.
Botanic information
Leaf: The palmate leaves form a circular outline and are composed of oblong to oblanceolate leaflets that are up to 150mm (6in) long with an obtuse apex. The leaf has a long petiole and the leaflets tend to be pendant.
Flower: The funnelform flower has expanded lobes with undulating margins and the style is protruding. The colour varies from yellow-gold to pink then turning white and appears at the end of the branches during summer and they may also appear on a leafless tree during late autumn.
Fruit: The woody capsule contains seeds that are encased in silky fibres. This plant is in the kapok family.
