Propagation
Take semi hardwood cuttings up to 50mm (2in) long from late summer to autumn and apply bottom heat.
Carry out mound layering during spring.
General pruning information
Tolerates a light prune to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Do not prune into old wood, as it will not regenerate.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves vary but are normally light green linear and sometimes downy. The entire margins may be recurved and the leaf apex is cuspidate to obtuse.
Flower: The flowers on the South African species tend to be tubulate and the european species are campanulate or urceolate. Both may be arranged in a raceme or panicle and appear on the current seasons growth. The flowering period varies from early, mid or late summer depending on the species.
Fruit: The tiny four-celled dehiscent capsule contains numerous small seeds. The seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
