Propagation
Sow seed during late summer in containers for spring flowering in warm areas and in cooler zones sow during early spring for late summer flowering. This plant dislikes root disturbance although it may be divided in spring.
It takes 6 months to produce flowers from seed.
Culture
Delphiniums require well drained fertile soil and to be planted during spring. Insert a stake beside the plant at an early stage and water regularly.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green palmate leaves normally have 5-lobes with a petiole that is the same length as the blade. The upper surface is slightly pubescent.
Flower: The rotate flowers are arranged in terminal raceme that is up to 250mm (10in) long and the colour varies from lilac to white and blue and appear from spring to autumn.
Fruit: Seeds freely and produces between 300 to 500 per gram.
