Propagation
Take semi hardwood cuttings from spring to summer and hardwood cuttings in winter.
Use layering for small quantities during summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The palmate leaves have 5 to 9 elliptical leaflets that have serrated margins and a stalk up to 7mm (¥in) long. The leaflet apex is acute and the base is cuneate and are dark green turning red during autumn before falling. The leaf has a petiole that is up to 100mm (4in) long.
Flower: The small white stellate flowers are arranged in a terminal panicle that is hidden by the foliage during early summer and are generally inconspicuous.
Fruit: The dark blue berries are arranged in grape-like clusters and are revealed after the leaves have fallen. The seeds are commonly eaten and spread by birds but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
