Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in containers.

Take cuttings or carry out layering during late autumn and place in a protected environment. Plant up during winter and space them 6 m (20ft) apart.

Plants can be budded or grafted on to a root stock which will produce fruit within 3 to 7 years.

Culture
When grown for its fruit it requires support on a strong "T" bar trellis with three horizontal wires 2 m (6ft) above the ground and place out side wires 1.5m (5ft) apart. Tie the plant to the wires and when dormant the vine should be pruned back to a single branch along each wire. Care should be taken as the fruit is produced on the previous season`s growth.

Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are broad ovate with a cordate base and have an abruptly acute apex. The new shoots and young leaves are covered in reddish hairs that give them rough texture.

Flower: The cyathiform female flowers have broad whitish petals and the male flowers have a ring of showy golden stamens. Male and female flowers are found on different plants and appear on the previous season`s growth during summer.

Fruit: The elongated oval berry has a thin bristle brown skin and a green fleshy centre which contains black seeds. This is an excellent edible fruit that is high in vitamin 'C'. The seeds are viable but the plant is reproduced vegetatively.
