Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media, prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle.
Divide suckering plantlets during the growing period.
Outdoor Cultivation
In warm regions with low humidity, cold and frosty night`s cacti and succulents grow well outdoors. The more humid atmosphere will limit the number of successful species. All of these plants require a very well drained soil andample sunlightto succeed. Once established these plants require minimal maintenance.
Botanic information
Leaf: The thick leathery gray-green leaves are broad lanceolate with recurved spines along the margin and the apex is pointed with a large very sharp spine. They are upright at first then arching and are arranged in a rosette.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a protruding stigma and styles and are arranged in a corymb-like cluster in a panicle that is held above the foliage on a scape that is up to 12m (36ft) high. They appear on 10-year-old plants after which the plant dies off leaving young sucker plants at the base.
Fruit: The papery capsule contains numerous flattened black seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
