Botanic information
Leaf: The mid green leaves are ovate to oval with a short petiole and tend to arch backwards. They have strong venation on the upper surface and the apex is acute.

Flower: The white to purple spotted tubulate flowers are inconspicuous as the colorful bracts enclose them. The bracts are salmon-pink to yellow-gold and tend to droop at the end and have a shrimp-like appearance. They are arranged in an upright spike that appears in early spring.

Fruit: The small capsule produces numerous seeds but are not commonly used as the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
