Propagation
Divide the rhizome from late winter to spring and it will require some time to recover. This plant dislikes root disturbance and should only be divided when necessary.
Sow fresh seed during spring in containers or in a prepared bed.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid to dark green long linear leaves have a stiff tough-fibroustexture with a sharpish entire margin and the upper surface forms a 'V' shaped channel.
Flower: The orange-yellow to yellow tubulate flowers are arranged in a dense terminal spike that is up to 500mm (20in) long and open consecutively from the bottom to the top. The inflorescence is held above the foliage on a leafless scape that is up to 1.5 m (5 ft) tall and appears from early to midsummer.
Fruit: The small capsule produces viable seeds, but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
