Propagation
Divide the rhizome from after flowering to autumn.

Sow seed as soon as it is ripe in boxes and prick out when large enough to handle then plant out on the third leaf. Planting depth is 10 to 120mm (4΅ in).

Note:
All parts of the plant if ingested will cause severe stomach upset.

Botanic information
Leaf: The lanceolate leaves may have a greyish colour and are up to 60mm (2₯in) wide. The base sheaths the stem and the apex is acute.

Flower: The rotate flowers have petals described as flags and falls and appear on a 800mm (30in) long scape. The colour ranges from red-purple to deep blue-purple with a mild fragrance and appear during spring.

Fruit: The small 3 to 6 angular leathery capsule contains the numerous seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type. All parts of the plant if ingested will cause severe stomach upset.
