Propagation
Stratify fresh seeds for 2-months during winter and sow in pots, then place in a cold frame to germinate.
Take semi-hardwood cuttings from late summer to autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The triangular shaped scale leaves have an abruptly pointed apex with an obvious grove on the underside. They are tightly pressed along the stems that stand upright in vertical planes and fan out from the red-brown stems.
Flower: The small male strobili is dark yellow and appears towards the tips of the branchlets and the female cone is a dull bluish-green with a fleshy texture. Both appear during spring on the same plant (monoecious).
Fruit: The upright cones are ovoid up to 15 mm (? in) wide, erect on short stems with 6 scales and large recurved extension of the apex.
