Propagation
Sow seed when ripe in a prepared bed. The seeds may require stratification before sowing in spring.

Take semi-hardwood cuttings taken from late summer to autumn.


Botanic information
Leaf: The glandular leaves are yellow-green with a bluish underside and a pointed apex. They are aromatic when crushed smelling like apples and take on a bronzy tone during winter. The divided branchlets are alternate, compressed and appear in sprays.

Flower: The tree is monoecious. The small male strobili are dark yellow and the terminal female cones are bluish-green and both appearing during spring.

Fruit: The small globular cones are pale green turning red-brown when ripe and they have overlapping 8 to 10 scales with usually 4 fertile. The compressed seed is surrounded by a wing that is up to 3mm (?in) long.The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
