Botanic information
Leaf: The scale leaves are obtuse and the undersides have white 'X` and 'Y'-shaped stomatic bands. The leaves are closely pressed and are bluntly tipped and have a sweet resinous sent when crushed. The branchlets appear as flattened sprays with the tips turned back.
Flower: During spring pollen is released from the tiny pale brownish male cones and fertilise the bluish female strobilus that appears at the shoot tips.
Fruit: The female cones have 7 to 8 scales each with 2 to 5 winged orangecolouredseeds.The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
