Propagation
Sow fresh seed after soaking in cold water for 2 days and stratifying for up to 90 days.

Take cuttings during autumn and placed under glass on a misting bench. Pot up during spring.

Note:
Care should be taken when selecting a sight allowing ample room for it to grow as it has vigorous roots that can lift concrete and block drains.

Botanic information
Leaf: The mature awl leaves point forward and are keeled on both sides and the base clasps the stem. The apex is acute and 2-bluish green bands of stomata are separated by a ridge on the inside. Young foliage is soft. 'Elegans' foliage turns bronze-purple in winter.

Flower: The male catkins are yellow releasing pollen during spring and the sparse small female cones appear as green rosettes at the tip of the shoots and both are produced on the same tree during spring. The flowers are rarely seen on the cultivar 'Elegans'.

Fruit: The rounded terminal female cones are on short stalks with 20 - 30 scales each containing 3 to 5 seeds. The green cones turn brown on maturity and remain on the tree after opening.
