Propagation
Take semi hardwood cuttings from summer to autumn and including a heel from the main branch. Remove a branchlet from the main stem by cutting or tearing; include a piece of stem bark.

Strip lower leaves and wilting tips with a sharp knife the insert cuttings 25mm (1in) into the media, place in cold frame.

Sow seed when ripe during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate which may take up to 5 years. Plants can be grafting during autumn.

General pruning information
This plant requires little pruning as it maintains a compact habit. Prostrate species may be lightly trimmed to contain but avoid cutting back to old wood, as it will not regenerate.


Botanic information
Leaf: The juvenile leaves are overlapping with a white stomatic band on upper surface. The adult awl shaped leaves have a sharp point apex and has a faint green midrib.

Flower: The male flower are united into an oblong catkin-like cone and the female strobili with up to 8-valvate scales that contain 1 to 2 ovules arranged on a short lateral branch and appear during late spring.

Fruit: The cones are berry-like and are reddish brown turning black with age. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
