Propagation
Sow seeds for the species during spring but the seedlings may be variable.
Take cuttings for cultivars during winter from well-shaped specimens.
Botanic information
Leaf: The juvenile acicular leaves are seen only on young seedlings and the adult gland-less scale leaves are compact and laterally clasp the stem and has an abrupt pointed apex.
Flower: The yellow male strobili releases pollen during early spring and fertilise the female cones that appear towards the end of the branchlets.
Fruit: The persistent cone is woody and globose with 4 to 14 scales with few or no warts and is persistent on the tree. The mature cone is pale brown and the seeds are winged.
