Propagation
Sow seeds when ripe but plants derived from seeds are variable inhabit.

Take semi hardwood cuttings during winter to produce a reliable habit forming plant. Cultivars, C. glabra 'Hodginsii' are grafted late winter.

Culture
This tree may be pruned to improve its shape or to form a hedge and is used for topiary but care should be taken not to prune leafless wood as it rarely regenerates.

Botanic information
Leaf: The mostly scale like silvery green leaves have glands on the underside with white resin and are seen as pinhead spots and have a parsley-like smell when crushed.

Flower: The small yellowish male flowers appear towards the tip if the branches during spring and the female develop in to dark brown cones up to 15 mm (µin) wide in summer.

Fruit: This cone is globose and woody with a short stalk, 5 to 10 scales and is dark brown at mature stage. The fruit is persistent and may remain on the tree for many years. The seeds are viable, but seedlings are very variable and the plant is normally propagated vegetatively.
