Propagation
Sow fresh seed during late summer to autumn in flats or boxes, and prick out when 10mm to 40 mm (1? in) tall. It takes 4 months to flowering from sowing and when planting leave crowns clear of the soil.
Culture
As a cut flower pick early in the morning, scald stems for 15 seconds before placing in fresh water.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are heavily lobed and are deeply pinnatifid, bipinnatifid or pinnatisect. The leaf base is wedge shape and the upper surface is prominently grooved.
Flower: The cratiform flowers have 4 to 5 broad petals with a cluster of prominent stamens in the centre. They are held high above the foliage on an un-branch scape that is up to 500mm (20in) tall and appear during winter. The flower buds are enclosed by a pair of pubescent sepals and the flower colour ranges from white, pink, red, orange, yellow and bi-colours.
Fruit: The small capsule contains numerous tiny seeds with up to 9500 per gram.
