Take root cuttings during winter and divide established clumps after flowering.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are oblong to ovate-lanceolate with an acute apex and cuneate base. The underside is glabrous and the petiole is up to 7mm (¥in) long with linear stipules. The leaves turncrimson red in autumn before falling.
Flower: The single or double cyathiform flowers are solitary or are arranged in pairs and appear before the leaves during early spring.
Fruit: The rounded drupe contains one seed but is not commonly produced and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
