Take heeled tip semi-hardwood cuttings from autumn to winter.

Culture
When planting as a hedge space at 1m (3ft) intervals and may require trimming twice a year as it has rapid growth when established. As a small tree train to a single or multiple trunks and remove unwanted branches. Older plants may be cut back to almost ground level to rejuvenate.


Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are ovate to obovate with an abrupt acuminate apex and a cuneate base. The petiole is up to 12mm (½in) long and the margins are finely serrated. It has burnished coppery-red new growth that ages to dark green is a feature of the plant.

Flower: The flowers are campanulate to rotate are arranged in a corymbose panicle that appears for up to 8 weeks from late spring to early summer. The white flowers give an attractive smoky effect on the plant.

Fruit: The pome is green ageing to red during autumn and winter and is arranged in conspicuous panicles. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
