Propagation
Take semi hardwood cuttings from summer to winter.
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and in cold climates place in a cold frame to germinate.
Culture
Prune regularly to maintain a compact shape and encourage flowering using hedge clippers. Cut back by half after flowering to rejuvenate older plants.
Botanic information
Leaf: The small linear leaves have recurved margins and the grey-green underside is densely pubescent. It is up to 5mm (?in) wideand when crushed it has a pine aroma.
Flower: The tiny 2-lipped tubulate flowers project from mauve bracts and have oil glands at the base that produce the lavender scent. They are arranged in dense oblong terminal spike-like raceme that is up to 30mm (1¥in) long and appears on a shortish leafless scape from spring to early summer.
Fruit: The downy brown schizocarpic fruit splits into 4 nutlets that are 2mm wide. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
