Propagation
Take stem cuttings from summer to early autumn. Allow the cutting wound to dry before inserting in to a very well drained media. Do not over water the cuttings.

Culture
This plant forms a semi-prostrate to climbing habit but care should be taken when planting as it has sharp thorns and the milky sap may produce severe dermatitis in susceptible individuals.

Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile oval to obovate leaves are up to 15 mm (? in) wide. They have a tough leathery texture with an entire margin and may be reddish. They normally appear on the new growth and may be shed during dry periods. During winter the leaves turn red before falling.

Flower: The tiny urceolate flowers are arranged with a female flower with a single pistil and several male flowers each with a single stamen. Both are enclosed in an involucre (cyathium) surrounded by large showy red bracts that are up to 12mm (½in) wide and appear from spring to summer.

Fruit: The 3-valve capsule is an explosive schizocarp and contains the numerous seeds. Small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
