Botanic information
Leaf: The reddish to green leaves are ovate to oblong and the margin is finely serrated. The apex is acute and the base is cuneate. The stipules are rounded and serrated like the leaves and are conspicuous on current season's growth.

Flower: The single or double crateriform flowers have 5-petals with up to 60 stamens. They are arranged solitary or in a small cluster and appear on the old wood before the leaves from winter to early spring. The opening buds are frost sensitive.

Fruit: The small pome is pear shape and green then ripening to yellow or reddish with many small spots (glands) from summer and autumn. The fruit is used to make marmalade and jam. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
