Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe during late summer.
Take soft tip cuttings during spring and place in a protected environment. The cuttings root slowly.
Good forms of this plant are grafted onto a rootstock.
This plant is resistantto Phytophthora cinnamomi.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green trifoliate leaves have lanceolate leaflets that are up to 75mm (3in) long and 20mm (µin)wide with serrated margins. The apex is acute and the base is cuneate with a short petiole.
Flower: The small cyathiform white flowers have numerous exserted stamens and a short pedestal. They are arranged in a loose cluster and appear during spring. The petals are soon shed leaving 5-linear to lanceolate sepals that enlarge and turn pink to red and is a feature of the plant.
Fruit: Under cultivation the small nut is not often seen and the seed is distributed by water. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
