Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.
Botanic information
Leaf: The oblanceolate to lanceolate phyllodes are smooth and leathery with an obtuse apex. They have parallel main veins and are up to 30 mm (1? in)wide.
Flower: The small butter-yellow bisexual tubulate flowers have inconspicuous sepals and petals with numerous prominentstamens. They are arranged in a cylindrical spike in the leaf axils towards the end of the branches and appear from late winter to spring.
Fruit: The flattened pod is up to 60 mm (2? in) wide and is green, tending to brown and twisting as it becomes mature. The small hard seeds germinate after low intensity fire in its native setting.
General information on pruning Acacia species
Tolerates a light prune after flowering back to a node, remove any dead wood back to the collar. If there is insufficient light towards the base of the tree prune the crown to allow the light in. The plants tend to be easily damaged by wind or borers, and damaged material should be removed.
