Propagation
Pre-soak seeds for up to 40 days, and then sow in a well-drained, moist media. Seeds germinate readily.
Note:
This plant is not normally cultivated for ornamental purposes in Australia as it is regarded as a weed.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green ovate to elliptical leaves turn pinkish before dropping and have strong camphor smell when crushed. The venation is reticulate with 3 to 5 nerves and has a yellowish mid rib. The slender petiole is up to 35mm (1¥in) long.
Note
New growth is tinged reddish and mature leaves turn red before falling sporadically during the year.
Flower: The small stellate flowers are greenish or yellowish white and are arranged in a terminal panicle that is up to75mm (3in) long and appear during early spring.
Fruit: The purple to black berry-like drupe contains one seed, which remains viable for up to 3 years. It is readily spread in bird droppings.
