Propagation
Sow fresh seed sown during spring.
Cultivars are shield budded onto 1- 2 year old understocks during summer and apical grafts on to 1-year old under stocks during winter.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are obovate to elliptical up to 100mm (4in) wide. The apex is abruptly acuminate and the rounded base is uneven. The margins are sharply double serrated and the pubescent petiole is up to 6mm (¥in) long.The upper surface is scabrous.
Flower: The tiny campanulate flowers are arranged in a raceme that appears during spring and not commonly seen.
Fruit: The small samara is surrounded by a membranous wing.
