Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy green broad-ovate leaves are slightly tomentose with an acuminate apex. There is a variegated form available and all leaves have a short petiole.
Flower: The small flowers are tubulate to salverform and may be tinged in pink. They are arranged in terminal corymbs that are normally inconspicuous amongst the rich purple bracts. There are numerous cultivars with a range of colourful bracts from white, pink, red, crimson, and shades of purple and appear from late spring to mid summer. The collar of the bracts can vary from bud stage to full bloom.
Fruit: The small nut contains seeds that are not normally used and the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
