Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are broad-ovate to reniform, softly haired and prominently veined with a pleated surface. The margin is serrated to sharply dentate and the petiole is long and slender.
Flower: The large funnelform flowers have 5-broad-obovate petals. The 2-upper petals are normally blotched with a darker colour and all the petals have ruffled margins. The flowers are arranged in a terminal umbel appearing from mid spring to early summer and then sporadically from summer to autumn. When crushed the flowers have a distinct odour.
Fruit: The small pointed capsule is green ageing to a pale brown and contains numerous seeds that are dispersed by wind. The viable seeds are capable of self-planting but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
