Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring, in containers.
Take semi hardwood cuttings of non-flowering shoots during summer and place in a well-drained media and keep moist.
Root cuttings taken during the growing period.
General information
Spring flowering species require little or no pruning as the flowers appear on the previous season`s growth.
Autumn flowering species may be cut back hard during spring if required. When planting, position the strongest leader towards the wall and remove any weak or damaged stems. Maintain the root ball at the existing soil level and mulch with garden compost or rotted manure. Keep moist but not wet during the establishment period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The trifoliate leaves have 3-ovate soft textured leaflets. The apex is acuminate and the upper surface has a copper-green tone.
Flower: The petal-less rotate flowers exhibit up to 4-5 white to pink petal-like sepals and a central cluster of yellow stamens. They are arranged solitary or in a short cyme on a 50-125mm (2-5 in) long pedicels and appear during spring.
Fruit: The small seed has a long feathery style and are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
