Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in a well drained media and prick out when large enough to handle.
Division of tubers during dormant period. Plant tubers during autumn with a pointed section facing down to a depth of 40 mm (1? in) and space 150 mm (6in) apart.
Old tubers may be dug up and stored during summer in a dry location.
Botanic information
Leaf: The bright to dark green palmately lobed leaves are pinnatifid with finely divided or broad lobes. They have a long petiole that arises from both the base and alternately up the stem of the plant.
Flower: The crateriform flowers have no petals but 6-showy sepals and numerous stamens. They appear terminally on a tall scape that is up to 250 mm (10 in) tall above the foliage. The colour ranges from white, pink, mauve, purple to light or dark blue. The main flowering period is from mid winter to early spring but blooms may be seen at other times of the year.
Fruit: The small achene has plumose attachments. The seeds are very small and propagation is normally by division of the tubers.
