Propagation
Take soft tip cuttings during spring for the species and the cultivars.

Sow fresh seed from spring to summer in a well drained media and keep moist.

Botanic information
Leaf: The bright green leaves are rough to touch (scabrous) and are ovate to broad-ovate with an abruptly acuminate apex and a short petiole. The pale green undersides are hairy and have a strong odour when crushed. Care should be taken as foliage is poisonous to stock and humans.

Flower: The small salverform flowers are arranged in a condensed umbellate spike that is up to 30mm (1?in) wide. The colour ranges from mauve, pink or oranges and yellows and the flowering season extends from spring to late autumn.

Fruit: The globular fleshy drupe is green maturing to black and is arranged in clusters of 1 to 20 and maturing in late summer. The seeds normally have a 50% viability rate and are widely dispersed by birds. The cultivars are mainly sterile and produce no seed.
