Hardwood cuttings taken during winter using callous box treatment and then grafted on to non suckering understock.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green palmately lobed leaves are up to 100 mm (4 in) long and have 3 to 5 lobes that are coarsely serrated. The apex is acute and the base is slightly cordate with a short petiole. The underside is covered in white tomentose and the petiole is up to 35mm (1½in) long. Wind disturbs the leaves revealing the whitish underside.

Note
The imbricate brown buds are small and ovate-conical. The shiny terminal is larger and the laterals grow to 12mm (¥in) long.

Flower: The flowers are dioecious, solitary inserted on the disk and accompanied by a bract. The reddish male flowers have up to 12-stamens and the greenish female has a single pistil.The flowers appear with new foliage during early spring and the male catkins are up to 75mm (3in) long.ng.

Fruit: The dehiscent capsule has 2-valves and contains brown seeds that are covered in cotton hairs. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetative.
