Propagation
Sow ripe seeds and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).
Stem cuttings in summer to autumn keep them the right way up.
The rhizome, which grows downwards, has a main function of food storage.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dull green long lanceolate leaves are up to 1 m (3 ft) long and have a stiff and leathery texture. The entire margins are purplish and the leaves appear towards the top of the trunk spirally in terminal bunches, becoming pendant with age.
Flower: The white sweetly scented crateriform flowers have 6-tepal and are arranged in a terminal panicle that appears as a large conical spray that is up to 600 mm (2 ft) long during early summer.
Fruit: The spherical berries are blue, red or purple and contain glossy black seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively from stem cuttings.
